What brings
you to therapy?

Maybe you're looking to set stronger boundaries and express your needs more clearly.

Or perhaps you're aiming to cultivate trust and ease anxiety in your relationships.

You might also be seeking support to challenge negative beliefs about yourself.

Hello,

my name is Aïda (she/her),

I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) based in Toronto, ON.

How I Practice

The foundation of my work with clients is based on establishing a safe, trusting relationship where we can truly collaborate so I know how best to support you. I am dedicated to supporting people with anxiety and building trust in relationships, establishing and maintaining boundaries, and exploring complex childhoods lacking emotional support and safety.

Before becoming a therapist, I spent several years working as a community-based counsellor working with people facing these concerns. I recognized the transformative and empowering potential of safe, supportive relationships during this time and aim to build my clients’ capacity for fostering these relationships.

In therapy, I offer a compassionate and understanding space to explore patterns keeping you stuck. Together, we can develop your awareness, choice, and flexibility around how you relate to others and, most importantly, to yourself. You can learn more about my approach to therapy here.

My accountability to our work

To ensure you receive the best possible care, I participate in clinical supervision, engage in professional consultation groups, and attend my own therapy to support my own self-awareness. For those who are open to it and provide consent, I video-record and review sessions both alone and with my supervisor to support reflection on the work I am doing with you and to receive feedback.

Anti-Oppressive Approach

My practice is grounded in anti-oppressive frameworks. I believe there are many possible ways to benefit from and engage in therapy, and I aim to co-create a path toward wellness with you.

My commitment to this practice is informed by my own lived experience as a Black woman from an Ethiopian immigrant family. Having had my own experience with cultural insensitivity as a client, I am committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and liberatory environment in therapy. I know our well-being has important and complex relationships with our social, political, and economic lived experiences.

Trauma-Informed Practice

Because of my experiences working with survivors of trauma as a community-based counsellor, I recognize the importance of moving at a pace that feels safe for you in therapy and isn’t overwhelming. I genuinely believe that you are the expert on your own experience, and my approach to the therapeutic relationship aims to honour your needs, choices, preferences, and curiosities in our work together.

I value (and use) your feedback

I believe therapy is a collaborative and co-creative process. I genuinely am curious to hear about your experience in session, and want to make sure it’s safe for you to share when you need are being met, but also when they aren’t. I make a practice of regularly checking in and asking how therapy is feeling for you. This helps me to make sure that we are on the right track, and are making good use of your time and resources.
